Acorn Consulting’s President Selected as One of Stanford Business
School’s Five Master Coaches
One of Nation’s Prominent Institutions Adds
Personal
Coaching Classes to its Leadership Program Curriculum
Menlo Park, CA July 26, 2004 – Acorn Consulting
announced today the appointment of its Founder and President, Andrea
Corney, as a Master Coach for Stanford Business School’s Leadership
Development Platform. The program signifies the move by one of
the countries cutting edge Business Schools to focus on leadership development
with a year long program for first year students that emphasizes first-hand
experience and one-on-one coaching.
Acorn Consulting’s Founder, Andrea Corney, has worked with high
tech management teams since 1995, helping them gain traction on their
critical business issues. Ms. Corney is a former corporate and
employment lawyer who has held positions at Heller Ehrman and Wilson
Sonsini. Combined with her JD/MBA from Stanford, her experience
enables her to bring a solid business focus to clients through her understanding
of the strategic issues facing business leaders.
Stanford’s leadership development program began in 2003-2004 with
60 students from the first year MBA program. The select group of
master coaches worked one-on-one with students on increasing their self-awareness
and meeting the real-life challenges of leading others.
“For many students the coaching sessions are the first time they
have truly faced their own individual strengths and weaknesses and come
to grips with what it will take for them to be effective leaders. We
are in a knowledge economy now where human capital provides the competitive
advantage and highly developed leadership skills are essential,” said
Andrea Corney, founder of Acorn Consulting.
Recognizing that part of effective leadership is the ability to coach
others, the school has expanded the leadership program to include second
year students. Starting this fall, 30 second year students will
participate in a new seminar on coaching while also acting as coaches
for first year students. Ms. Corney is one of five Master Coaches
who have been selected to work with Professor David Bradford on developing
the seminar. The Master Coaches will also meet regularly with small
groups of students to support them in their coaching role.
